We truly feel that even before we ever knew it, God was working behind the scenes in our hearts and in our lives, preparing us for where we are right now. In just August, we learned of Choosing Hope Adoptions, located right next door to us, in Springfield. A Christian Adoption Agency. After hearing about Choosing Hope at church that Sunday in August, we felt a stirring in our hearts, and so we pursued moving forth. And really, in just two months time, we have completed and met all requirements to be considered Home Study Approved!
That call came yesterday, December 15, 2016 in the afternoon. Our Social Worker Sherri had texted me at 1:43 saying: "Hi, Amber! I have good news for you...and when you get a minute, please call me!"
At 2:08, I called her, and that is when she told me the news! "I am happy to tell you that you and Kevin are homestudy approved...and...there's more. We have a birth mother that we are meeting with tomorrow at noon. She is pregnant with a little boy, and wants to make an adoption plan for him. She is scheduled for a C-Section on Tuesday, January 3rd."
She shared some more details with me, that we want to wait to share with you. Sherri said, "please pray about this, and talk to Kevin, and let me know if you would like your profile shown to this birth mom tomorrow."
I had been jotting down notes of everything she shared with me, so that we had all the information she provided, in writing. I was shaking, crying, and overwhelmed with joy! I immediately called Kevin...he wasn't answering. I kept calling, and calling, and finally he answered. He wasn't at a place that he could really talk, he was outside, without a coat, at work, moving something. I said, "Kevin, I'm sorry, but this is important, you're going to have to take a minute to talk to me; I talked to Sherri, and I have some news to share with you." I was crying, and I think it scared him. He said, "is it bad news?" I said, "no dear, we are homestudy approved." He began to cry, and said, "awesome!". I said, but wait...there's more. I began to share with him all that Sherri told me, and he said, "Did you tell her YES!?" I said "yes, dear, I did, but we needed to talk about it, and I will let her know that you want our profile shown, as well."
That last hour of work, from 3pm yesterday until getting off at 4pm seemed like an eternity. My heart raced, as the news sank in. In literally two weeks, this little baby boy will be born, and there is a possibility that this birth mother may choose Kevin and I to parent her child. While we understand that there are other birth families waiting to adopt and their profiles will be shown also, there is still a chance. And no matter the outcome, we are putting this is Gods hands, and know that he knows what the outcome will be. No matter if it is us, or another birth family ready to adopt, we are so thankful that this birth mother chose life for her son. Because in this day and age we live in, we all know that she didn't have to choose life. While we would love to see an end to abortion, right now, that is not the reality of the world we live in.
Friends, will you join with us in prayer? Please pray for this birthmother. Pray for this little baby boy. Pray for the Choosing Hope staff that will meet with this birth mother, and father today. Pray for this situation, that the Lord will be with all involved. Pray for Kevin and I. Pray that His will be done.
We thank you for walking alongside us over the past few months. Thank you for your prayers, and encouragement, and your support. We have needed each word spoken, and every bit of support that you have all given.
We may not know what this afternoon holds, but we know who holds this afternoon in His hands. He knew long before us that we would be where we are today.
This afternoon, at noon friends. That is when Choosing Hope will meet with this birth mother. They will spend several hours with her, talking to her, praying with her, and hearing the desires of her heart that she has for her child. Please, please pray!
Love,
Kevin & Amber
